Prescription Medicine Recalls

Recalls are actions taken by a firm to remove a product from the market. Recalls may be conducted on a firm's own initiative, by FDA request, or by FDA order under statutory authority. If you have a medicine that has been recalled, talk to your health care professional about the best course of action. Stores generally have a return and refund policy when a company has announced a recall of its products.Although some form of medicine regulation has existed in the UK since the time of King Henry VIII, it was not until 1971 that a comprehensive regulatory system was introduced to make sure medicine were rigorously tested for safety and effectiveness before becoming available to the consumer. A drug recall occurs when a prescription or over-the-counter medicine is removed from the market because it is found to be either defective or potentially harmful.
